We would like to thank those of you who took the time and care to comment and answer our most recent question, "What kind of Scrapbooker are you?". It was interesting to see how elaborate your answers were. We greatly appreciate your feed back.

We finally buckled down, couldn't decide on just one winner so we picked three. They have all been notified and will be enjoying their prize (see photo on left) soon. We wanted to share their answers, so here they are...

... I am definitely the type of person that likes things put away and doesn't do well with clutter. However, I am also a person who needs to see things to remember what I have!! My husband and I moved into our new house a year ago, we chose to build again because I needed a bigger scrapbook room, well ok, the kids needed more play room as well, but lets be honest!!! I started with a blank slate and a list of things our room needed to accommodate. I have lived in this house for a year and I have redesigned it twice already!! I am not sure if there will ever be a storage system that completely works for me but I can tell you that my scrapbook room is my happy place. Its peaceful, calm, creative and somehow has the ability to re-energize me, kinda like the oxygen they pump into Vegas casinos!! - Laurie S.

...I am a cropper that spends far too much time organizing, not enough time cropping. My 13x13 boxes are labelling almost identical (to Cindy's as shared in the newsletter). I used the book called "Scrapbooking Freedom". I forget the author but she has a system that helps you organize your printed photos and supplies. Live by it now. I am at the point where I can quickly get a photo, find product and find an idea to scraplift. Life is good. Now if I could find the time to get to your kits that I have matched with photos. Sigh. - Gwen M.

...I am not at all like Christy. I need my scrapbook room/art studio to be very neat. My A type personality needs control over my surroundings. And I am very lucky, my room is huge and everything has it's space were it belongs. I need the room to be tidied after every project or I just can't get my creative juices. I have six huge cupboards that I bought at Idea and everything to do with scrapbooking is stored in them. Inside each cupboard, everything is in scrapbook cases or a plastic organizer. Paper is organized by subject matter, colour or project material. Stamps, inks, flower, sticker, riboons, buttons etc. are all organized in their own plastic containers. If my room is not tidy it drives me crazy and I can get really crabby.

But I will confess that my biggest problem is that I sometimes buy the same thing over and over again because I can't remember what I have already!!! But really, is that a problem? I really don't think so, a girl can't have enough scrapbooking supplies can she? - Debra M.

These recipes are Christmas morning savers! So easy and very yummy! Try them out and tell us your thoughts!

"Wife Savor"
(Overnight Brunch Egg Bake)

What you need:

6 cups shredded Colby-Monterey Jack Cheese Blend
2 Tbsp butter or margarine
5 medium green onions, sliced (1/3 cup)
1 small red bell pepper, chopped ( 1/2 cup)
1 jar (4.5oz) Green Giant sliced mushrooms, drained
8 oz cooked ham, cut into thin bite size strips
(or, deli ham 250 gr shredded )
8 eggs
1/2 cup all-purposed flour
2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
13/4 cups milk
Additional chopped red bell pepper and fresh parsley; if desired.

Make it:

1. Sprinkle 3 cups of the cheese into greased 13x9 inch glass baking dish. In 10-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Cook onions, bell pepper and mushrooms in butter stirring occasionally, until tender. Spoon vegetables over cheese. Top with ham and remaining 3 cups cheese.

2. In large bowl, beat eggs with wire whisk. Add flour, parsley and milk; beat well. Pour over mixture in baking dish. Cover with foil; refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.

3. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake uncovered 55 to 65 minutes or until set and top is lightly browned. Let stand 10 minutes. Cut into 12 squares. Garnish with bell pepper and parsley.

Enjoy!

Captain Crunch French Toast

What you need:

5 eggs
1/2 cup cream
2 tsp vanilla
fresh nutmeg
Captain Crunch Cereal ( place in plastic bag and roll with rolling pin til fine crumbs )
cream cheese
sourdough bread
strawberries
warm syrup
whipped cream

Make It:

1.Spread cream cheese in center of two slices of the sourdough bread, layer with strawberries.

2. Mix together the eggs, cream, vanilla, nutmeg.

3. Dip sandwich, roll in Captain Crunch.

4. Grill until Golden Brown.

5. Serve with sliced strawberries, warm syrup, and whipped cream.

Enjoy!

Recipe from the Jingle Bell Crop

Alot of the people that attended our Jingle Bell Crop asked for this recipe that we served for dessert. We have posted this recipe for your your enjoyment. This recipe rocks for Christmas!
And on top of that, you don't need to feel bad for wanting seconds of this irresistible treat!

Macadamia Fudge Torte

Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Start to Finish: 3 Hours
Servings: 12

Filling:
1/3 cup low-fat sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Cake:
1 box (18.25 oz) Duncan Hines Deluxe Moist Devils Food Cake mix
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 can (15oz)sliced pears in light syrup, drained
3 eggs

1.3 cup chopped macadamia nuts or pecans

Sauce:
1 jar (17oz) butterscotch caramel topping
1/3 cup milk

1. Heat oven to 350F. Spray 9 or 10 inch spring-form pan with cooking spray. In small saucepan, cook filling ingredients over medium-low heat until chocolate is melted, stirring occasionally.

2.In large bowl, beat cake mix, cinnamon and oil with electric mixer on low speed 20 to 30 seconds or until crumbly ( mixture will be dry).

3. Place pears in blender of food processor. Cover; blend until smooth.

4. In another large bowl, beat 2 1/2 cups of the cake mix mixture, puree pears and eggs with electric mixer on low speed until moistened. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed. Spread batter evenly in pan. Drop filling by spoonfuls over batter. Stir nuts and water into remaining cake mix mixture; sprinkle over filling.

5. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until top springs back when touched lightly in center. Cool 10 minutes. Remove side of pan. Cool completely, about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

6. In small saucepan, cook sauce ingredients over medium-low heat 3 to 4 minutes or until well blended, stirring occasionally. Just before serving, spoon 2 tablespoons warm sauce onto each dessert. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Jingle Bell Crop! SOOO much fun!!

Could we have asked for nicer weather for our event? There was No blowing snow, no ice on the windshields, and no wind! What a perfectly beautiful weekend, both inside and outside the building. We had so much fun!
The new hall was chosen for several reasons, namely better lighting conditions and the absence of stairs ( no carrying heavy totes down a level ) From all of the comments that we heard, everyone was happy with our choice of halls. Kudos to Christy and Nancy for finding this gem for us.
The hall was decorated with red and green tables and humming with happy scrapbookers, all busy creating. Despite a few kitchen disasters ( who knew that crock pots could explode? ) everything went off without a hitch. Our thanks to our fabulous sponsors : Conexia Mortage, Scrapbook Eh, Wholesale and Crop N Cruise, for the goodies that the ladies won and enjoyed. We would also like to thank the awesome ladies that helped us with set up and tear down, cleaning and serving. We really appreciated the help!

We are sad to have to say farewell to Nancy, our Calgary office assistant. Nancy has accepted a full time position and this was her last official duty with Monday Night Class. We will sadly miss her cheery personality and her organizational skills. We will also be mourning the loss of her sister, Heather as quite often, they were a package deal.
Good luck Nancy! Even a full time job in downtown Calgary, with a commute, will probably be easier than having to meet our crazy deadlines and having to harass Cindy for her newsletter submissions! We love you and will miss you greatly.

It's the Craft Supplies Intervention.... also known as the "I Thought I Needed It" Festival!!!!!

Gather up your new, gently used or left overs from your stamping, scrapping, stitching, beading, quilting, fibre work, metal work or any other craft or art projects. Craft magazines, books and grab bags too!!

Sort and price your collection, buddy up with a friend if you want! Rent a table (or a parking stall near Robin and have a tailgate party in the parking lot!). Bring a cash float, sell your treasures and KEEP YOUR CASH!!

It's so hard to believe how quickly September flew by... and here in Calgary we had beautiful weather that made us think we were still enjoying summer! I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to some cooler days where I can head down to the basement and be creative without feeling guilty about missing the beautiful sunshine outside!

It's the end of the month which means the website has been updated with some lovely new kits! Head on over to have a look!

Scraproom Photos

I thought I would share a few photos of my scrapbook room - which actually
has to double has quilt room - which actually has to triple as my home
office. It's a busy space, so it has to be somewhat organized. My husband
has commented in the past, that he's not sure what my hobbies really
are...but he knows they involve shopping and organizing. It was a bedroom
in our house that needed a little customizing, so we took out the closet
rods added some wooden shelves and then wire cubs to organize a variety of
goodies. Try not to notice the one overflowing with MNC kits...yikes! Then
the room needed not to feel so much like a bedroom so we added a large
picture window from the room out onto our main living space, this window
lets me see what everyone else is doing and keeps me from feeling isolated.
I needed a way to store punches and awkward shaped tools, found that a shoe
organizer on the back of my door works great, I put little cards on the
front showing what punch is inside. I spent many hours this summer
organzing my fabric, so that when I wanted it for a quilt, it was easy to
shop my stash, but it also allowed me to organize a bunch of scraps which I
now actually use on my layouts a little more often because I can SEE them!
Who knew? I am shopping for a new way to store cricut cartridges, I love
the boxes, not sure I can give them up, so we'll see what happens there for
now they are jammed in drawers on shelves, they are everywhere.

And the centerpiece of my scraproom is a cabinet that my husband built for
me - while we were still dating (this might have been the trick), this
cabinet is awesome!! One side for cardstock, one side for patterned paper,
larger drawers for miscellaneous tools and embellishments, and a bank of
drawers down the middle just the perfect size for my stamps. I can't
believe how much I can fit on this shelf!

I signed up alone, sat at a table with some people I only kinda-sorta knew and ended up have a great time!!! It's the end of March... and here in Calgary March came in like a Lion and I think it's leaving like a Lion Cub... I'm honestly wondering if spring will ever come to stay. Right now it's raining, which is better than snow, but I hear that snow is in the forecast for the weekend.

To add a little brightness to the end of March, it's time to check out the newest kits on the MondayNightClass.ca website!

There are some wonderful kits this month... I love the flowers in QT Pie (and yes, you make them) and the bubbles in Surfside, and the idea of photos of my sons on a layout called My Brother. So many ideas for these kits!!!

They have a team of reporters who test and review all sorts of different crafting products, many of them are great for paper crafters! Jingle Bell Crop Class

I hope you are all as excited about the Jingle Bell Crop that is scheduled for this coming weekend! This will not only be my first event as staff, but my first Jingle Bell Crop!! I can't wait!!

Colleen will be teaching a Feminine Heritage Class.... Working on heritage pages can be difficult, particularly if you have very few or small photos to work with. This feminine heritage page will give you the building blocks of one heritage technique that will enable you to easily proceed with scrapbooking some of your most precious photos and memories. Finally I get to introduce our new blog mistress...( get your mind out of the gutter). She is fabulous and we are excited to see all the new stuff she will be doing with our blog...She will also be writing and compiling our newsletter.

Here is a little message from her...

Hi! My name is Nancy and I am so excited to be joining the MondayNightClass.ca team!! In addition to helping Christy out with some of the running around she has to do, I will also be taking care of a lot of the online responsibilities as well as helping out at events!

Some of you may recognize me from the jobs I’ve had at some of the local papercrafting stores … I worked many years ago at Paper Arts (now closed), then moved to teaching classes at Paper Pastimes, taught a few classes at a now closed scrapbook store in Crowfoot, and finally I working at The Scrapbook Pantry for 15 months.

I’ve been a papercrafter since the fall of 1996 when my Mom showed me this new craft she saw…. rubberstamping…. she had me at heat embossing!!! I was hooked! My first project was my Christmas gift tags that year… and the first big project was to make birth announcements for son #2. I think this is the longest I have ever stayed with a craft form. I think it’s because it can grow and change so easily. There are always new techniques and ideas to try!

I am a card maker first… I have always loved sending cards, and friends and family now look forward to receiving ones I’ve created. I have done some scrapbooking and I enjoy playing with the products but often find myself a little lost as to what to do! That’s what I love about the MondayNightClass.ca kits – the kits help to get the creative juices flowing!

When I’m not in my craft space, you’ll find me camped out in front of the TV with my family or curled up under a cozy blanket with a good book. I also enjoy 5-pin bowling, baking, going for walks, hanging out with my friends and playing around on my computer.

I’ve been married to Bruce for 19 years and we have two wonderful sons… Alex is 15 and Matthew is 13. We also have both a dog (Milo is 8) and a cat (Miikka is 2), despite a few of us having allergies!

Today was the first day of the new website. There is still too much to do and you will see it evolve this month before your eyes. As will the blog...we have hired a new blog mistress and will be announcing her at some point this month. I can't wait for you to see what she has in store for you all.

I really took a long hard look at what MondayNightClass.ca meant to me as part owner in the last few months. I paid attention what the girls told me they liked...and yes, what they wished we did better. Somethings we can fix easily others are going to be harder...like some of the website design flexibility. It's never easy to take a deep long look at your baby and admit there were things it could be better at....and that is how MNC feels to me, like my child...well Cindy's and mine.

We have a few new ideas in the works (like showing the kits with photos) even a few new designers that are going to blow your mind. We love our designers and have really supported them in the process of creating even more elaborate and stunning kits. We hope that when you open you're package from us you feel like a princess. A princess of creativity!!

Job Description
- Computer skills are necessary, you will be blogging, facebooking, emailing, and formatting on a desktop publisher... no special training needed but computer skills manadotary on PC
- The hours are unpredictable, some weeks more then others but are flexible as to time of day and much can be done at home if you have a PC
- Must have own car as errands are involved
- Pay is nominal but the rewards are great!
- Shop closes for December and most of the summer.
- Great for SAHM or retired person.
- Scrapbooking skills are not necessary

Cookie Recipe - At Long Last!!!

I am sorry that this did not get posted sooner - I was having problems getting into the blog ( as Christy can tell you, I am computer challenged). Here is the recipe from the Summer Scraptacular:

Rollo Cookies

3 packages Rollo chocolates, unwrapped

2 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
Sift dry ingredients together and set aside

1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine ( I prefer butter for the taste)
2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
Cream sugars with butter, add vanilla and eggs. Add dry ingredients a little at a time until you have made the cookie dough. Chill slightly.

Using a tablespoon, scoop out a blob of dough and wrap it carefully around a Rollo chocolate. You want to make sure that the chocolate is totally engulfed in the dough as you may suffer an unfortunate blow out during the cooking stage!!!

Topping:
1 cup chopped pecans
1 tbsp of sugar

You may have to double the topping if you run out, some days the cookies have more topping stick to them than other days. Roll each cookie in the topping mix and then freeze the cookies on a cookie sheet in a single layer. They store really well in an ice cream bucket with waxed paper between the layers. They can be frozen for up to a month in this state and cooked as you need them.

To bake, set the oven for 350 degrees. Remove frozen balls from the deep freeze and place on a cookie sheet with a couple of inches or more between balls. Bake for approximately 7- 10 minutes. Slight cracks should appear in the top of the cookie. The center will still appear to be a domed shape. Do not over bake, or you will suffer blow outs and the Carmel will leak out of the cookie!!! Cool on cookie sheet for 10 minutes before attempting to remove from sheet. Store in covered container. As if!!! I know that you will be munching shortly after they are cooled!!! LOL.

I haven't posted one of these in the last few months but I have recently been exploring my world in a little deeper thought then usual...I know it's hard to believe I am capable of deep thought, but I am on a creative journey of sorts. If you want to read more about it check out this blog post on my personal blog. All of my pondering has left me with one big question...well several, but one that I thought would be good to chat about here...

I have really been struggling with this for a while...I think I tend to scrapbook more for creativity sake, but I always put the memory first. I definitely think preserving memories is important, but why I actually sit down and scrapbook is to nourish my creative soul...so I would have to say, for me, it's all about the creativity!

NEW Canadian Scrapbooker

The Summer issue of Canadian Scrapbooker officially hit the store shelves on June 1st. However, some of us have it this wonderful issue in our hands for the last week or so.

MondayNightClass.ca loves Canadian Scrapbooker and flipping through the pages to see all the great Canadian talent and published layouts from our customers.

This issue of the magazine has layouts published by three of our designers, Christy Riopel , Kimberly Collis, Amy van Engelen, our newest designer Paula Kelly. As well as 2 layouts from Rose Koziel. If you ever been to a crop with MondayNightClass.ca then you've meet Rose from our Sales Team.

We are so proud of Christy as she is now on the Canadian Scrapbooker Team and a contributing writer. In the current issue, she has layout on her version of the cover photo (page 8) and another great layout on page 108. I always love how Christy mixs fonts types and sizes.

Kimberly has a great layout published on page 31. I love how she journalled all the way around her photos about everyday life.

Amy has a layout published from the kit she designed called 'Hang Ten'. The credits were a little vague but Amy actually designed this kit for MondayNightClass.ca and somehow in shipping and photography the pages got reversed. This is how the layout should have looked. (On a side note: Did you see Amy's THREE new kits up this month - I am jealous of how the girls brain scraps, the ideas are always new and so creative - I think I like the layout Playing in the Sunshine the best but then my new garden photos will look awesome on Bloom)

Paula layout is in the seasonal gallery on page 131. She definitely got better pictures whale watching than I did, I have just the tip of a whale tail. But, some great ones in the orange suits.

This was Rose's first time published and she had not one but two layouts published. Rose's first layout can be found on page 28. I love her take on the subject 'View from Above'. And her second layout can be found on page 119.

I actually was published for the first time in the last issue of Canadian Scrapbooker and it was such a rush to see my layout in print. I encourage everyone to submit to this great Canadian publication. The current call is on for the Winter issue - take a LOOK!

On another note, plans are in full swing for our Summer Scraptular event on June 11/12 in Calgary. Rumor has it that Cindy is baking all week long! Can you say YUM!

I scrap so that I can have a history to share with my children and grandchildren. I admit I started doing the holiday, birthday, wedding, school days layouts, but I have changed my tune. I try to focus more on the day to day of our lives. I know the kids will remember that we had Christmas, but will they remember the funny things they have said? Or how they felt on the first day of school?
That said, are there some things that don't belong in an album? What about a story of divorce? Or the death of a family pet.... or something more morbid?
Is there anything off limits? Or is everything fair game?

So, recently picked up a few of my albums, in an effort to organize them. Who needs weight training when a completed album is as heavy as it is?! So I got to thinking that my albums are also in need of some weight loss!

If you aren't too busy celebrating St. Patrick, and his feat of chasing the snakes out of Ireland, give our latest sketch challenge a go! The original kit was the "All Girl and Proud of It" kit, and the sketch is below. The Take Flight layout has been done by Shannon, of her beautiful daughter Hailey. The journaling on this layout is beautiful. I wish I had thought of it! ;)

Beautiful Weekend in Victoria with The Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival

MondayNightClass.ca was very excited to take part in the Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival in Victoria this weekend. It was so much fun and such a cool venue!!! I wish we had a space like that to hold our Summer Scraptacular in! It has a glass roof so the natural light was amazing. Victoria was full of spring flowers and green grass...not that I had time to spend outside. I was busy teaching at the Loonie Make and Take bar....and Make and Takes for a loonie is crazy fun!!!

The Canadian Scrapbooker booth was hoping...but as usual girls were laughing and having a great time!!

The lovely Carol from Paper Pastimes in Calgary was doing demos!

The Upsy Daisy girls were there for a better part of the both days doing amazing Make and Takes. I have to say a huge thank you to Upsy Daisy for sponsoring our Make and Take pages. I don't have any of me teaching...because I am not magic...but I was so pleased to meet a few of our subscribers in person and to make a few new friends.

What do you do with your paper scraps? Do you keep them to use later? And if you do, please tell me how you do it!

Do you just chuck them? (And if you do get rid of them.... please don't tell Rose. If you don't already know, she is a recycle-aholic, and will likely single handedly save our planet. :)

This hobby was obviously named after these pesky pieces of leftover paper, so tell us what you do with yours!

I would have to say majority of the time I am "glue as you go". Of course I have a bottle of Un-Du close by...but rarely use it.

Sketch Challenge #5

Well, here it is! Challenge #5! The original kit was an oldy but a goody.... Who remembers the "Canada Eh!" Kit?Well, this is the sketch for that kit, and Christy had some oh so appropriate photos from her recent trip to CHA to add to the original kit. (This is work? Seriously?)

And my take on the sketch (with slight adjustments, of course) is done with a majority of wallet photos from my little sister's wedding rehearsal last summer.

So let's see what you can do!

Our own MNC designers, Jennifer Roswell and Kimberly Collis are going to appear on Breakfast Television with Jill Belland broadcasted from Scrapbookers' Paradise South in Calgary.

Jennifer is going to be on to promote Crop 4 Kids. We are all so excited that Jennifer's vision for Crop 4 Kids is into its 2nd year and even better this year's crop is SOLD OUT! But, there are several great classes that you can take at Crop 4 Kids and they are now open to the public for registeration.

Kimberly is teaching a class at Crop 4 Kids called the ID Badge Mini Album and will be showing her class as well as some of the other Mega Make n' Takes.

There are going to be 3 spots on BT from Scrapbookers' that will be broadcasted between 6 - 9 am on Thursday am.

Also, our own Christy Riopel will be teaching her class 'The 5 Secrets to Amazing Layouts'. If you have always wanted to take her Design class but couldn't commit to the time then you won't want to miss this 2 hour class.

So, if your a late riser (like me), be sure to set your PVR and if you are a late riser and don't have a PVR (like me for sure) then I guess you better get up early. That is definitely what I am going to do.

Here is our fourth sketch challenge! Have you been keeping up?

This is Kimberly's take on the sketch. She isn't much of a two page layout gal, but loved using four smaller photos on the first page, as opposed to one large one.

And, this is Christy's interpretation of the sketch. I love the spray of bling across the two pages. Love it!

So... think you can do better? Sure you can! Use the original kit, or the two designer layouts as your inspiration, and whip up your own layout!

Wow! Did we ever start a discussion last time with our single vs double page question. I know you will all be pleased to know that Cindy and Christy didn't come to an agreement, so there will be lots to talk about in the future!

And speaking of something to talk about... What about this month's topic?

Do you....

Glue As You Go
or
Go With The Flow?

I have ALWAYS been the one who puts her layout together as I put it together. I don't see the point in laying everything down, just to pick it back up again and glue it back down. This does have its downsides, and on more than one occasion, I have been frantically searching for my bottle of Un-Du (which is the greatest invention in the WHOLE wide world), so I can place an embellishment slightly more askew. However, in the end, I like to commit as I go.

Christy, on the other hand, likes to lay her page out. She likes the freedom to move things, flip them, take them off the page, and put them back on. She is a little more hesitant to give her heart to the layout until she is sure it is exactly what she had in mind. This too, has drawbacks. Christy has often misplaced that perfect embellishment, and has spent several minutes searching for it. On the table, under the paper, in her tote, on the floor... Where did it disappear to?

So, who are you? Do you like to commit, or would you rather have your freedom when it comes to putting your page together?

This is our third sketch challenge, and it is an amazing sketch. I also can't believe that both ouf our designers used the same sketch, and came up with the same theme for their pictures!! I guess great minds do think alike!
The original kit was "Wanted", and here are two designer takes on it!
This is Christine's interpretation of it. I love the flower arrangments. So pretty.

And this is Shannon's. Her button/brad grouping is perfect!
